Honeycomb Double Flap Pinwheel card

Here's today's Fun Fold card.  This is a Honeycomb Double Flap Pinwheel card and is another great project by Iced Images.  Here are the four sides...

And here's the view from the top.

The card is 5" x 7", folds flat and fits into an A7 size envelope.

Please see and "like" the Iced Images assembly video here: https://youtu.be/n_L0jSLb7nU

Here's the link to my project that does not contain the images - just the base card card and layers.

The link below does contain the images I used. All images have been flattened for Print then Cut. Unflatten, then change the operation type back to "Basic cut" if you don't wish to print.

(I had to remove the gift boxes image from the larger rectangle as it was an uploaded image.)

New Design Space projects to share

Today I have some new fun fold cards to share.

First up is a Triple Pop-up Star card which could be used for various themes. I chose a Christmas theme although I have used non-traditional colours.

**This post contains affiliate links, and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my links.

This card is based on a YouTube tutorial by Iced Images. You can see her assembly video here: https://youtu.be/wfT2skw2d_k
Please give it a "like" and leave her some love in the comments under the video. :)
Here's the link to my DS project: Triple pop-up star card
The project doesn't include the "Merry Christmas" image but it's from Design Space. The image number is #MDCCD2C7 and is included in Cricut Access. I flattened the image and printed it on printable glitter cardstock. Here's a link to the printable glitter cardstock I use: https://amzn.to/3w76OjZ

So as not to waste the sheet of glitter cardstock I changed the project copies to 3 and was able to use most of the sheet. I now have two sentiments ready for other cards.

This cardstock prints beautifully in my Epson ET-7750 printer using the rear feed tray. Make sure you click the "Use System Dialog" box when printing from Design Space, then select the best quality print setting.

Next is a bi-fold heart gatefold card.

Here is the DS link to my project. Bi-Fold heart gatefold card

This card goes together quite easily. Just remember to flip the solid heart over and only add adhesive to the right half. This then gets adhered to the left most part of the assembled card base.

I used the Printable glitter cardstock for my sentiment and again printed multiples so I didn't waste a sheet of paper.

I'm behind on posting my cards so look out for more in the coming days. 😀

Two new card designs

Today I'm sharing my Design Space files for two cards.

First is this cap and gown graduation card. It is based on a project by Rhonda Griffin.
This project is 100% free to cut without a Cricut Access subscription.

Here is the link the the Design Space project: Cap and Gown Card

And here is the link to Rhonda's YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCT1spTHM58

The second project is a Fold Back Pop-up card based on a project by Sam Calcott - Mixed up Craft.

The Design Space project does not include the images or sentiments used in my version, just the base card and layers.

The Happy Birthday sentiment was created using a Cricut writing font and the inside sentiment "Wine gets better with age... we get better with wine!" is stamped and heat embossed.  The stamp is from the "Art Impressions - Girlfriends Collection - Clear Photopolymer Stamps - In the Tub" and is available here: Scrapbook.com #ad

The pouring wine image is from Design Space. The image number is #MBFA50FE.

Here's the link to the free Design Space project: Fold Back Pop-up card

And here is the link to Sam's video: https://youtu.be/dPYPiHpX1HA

Sharing Design Space projects that contain system (non-Cricut) fonts

A recent update to Cricut Design Space has affected the sharing of projects that contain system fonts.

Previously, if you used a system font, provided you welded your text (which turns that text into an image) you were able to save the project and share it with anyone.

Now, if you use a system font, whether your text is welded or not, your project will be saved with sharing set to "Only me".

And, if you edit an existing project you might see the message below when you click Save.

(It doesn't matter if you click Save or Save As... the "Who can view this project?" will be saved with "Only me" selected.)

You can still share your projects that contain system fonts. But you now have to perform an extra step.

  • Make sure you weld any text that uses a system font.  If you don't weld your text it will be changed to Arial when anyone else opens the project if they don't have the same font you used  installed on their device. Keep in mind that they won't be able to edit the text as it is now an image.
  • Save your project as usual
  • If you see the orange error box (as above) click on the green "Save" button in the error message.
  • Click on your project name at the top of the DS screen.

  • Click "Edit Project Details" from the bottom of the project preview.

  • Scroll to the bottom and from the "Who can view this project" box, click on the down arrow beside "Only me" and select "Anyone with link". (Or choose "Everyone" if you want to share it to the Cricut Community.)

  • Click Save.

  • To share your project (with a friend or within in email/Facebook group/message etc) click the Copy Project Link option. The URL for that project will be copied to your clipboard ready to paste (CTRL V) into your message/email.

Design Space troubleshooting

Instructions below are for Windows Desktop versions only. Does not apply to iOS (iPad/iPhone) or Android versions.

Many users are experiencing glitches with Design Space versions 6 and above. Some of those are:

Unable to open saved projects   Images not showing on screen Ã‚ Images not being able to be moved  Images moving when you press Page up/Page down  Scroll bars not working Ã‚ Unable to resize images/text using the handle on the object

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Tip 1: Change to the “Classic canvas” style.

The new style canvas seems to be causing most of the glitches that occur while using the program. Currently the only extra feature that is available in the “New” canvas style is the Copy and Paste between projects feature.  Switching back to the “Classic” canvas style means you won’t have access to that feature.

To change to the Classic canvas style click the Settings icon  then click the Settings menu

Click on the “Classic” option then click Done.

** If you have a project open on your canvas save it before changing canvas style to avoid losing any changes you’ve made.

Tip 2: Clearing the Design Space Cache

Now that Design Space is downloaded to our computer the Cricut directory can get bogged down with unneeded files.  Clearing the DS cache removes those files and it's something that should be done on a regular basis.

This is different to clearing your browser cache, which is what we often had to do when Design Space was browser based.

** Be aware that the files you are removing include the offline versions of your projects.  If you created/saved a project while your computer was not connected to the internet and you haven’t used Design Space online since creating that project, it won’t have had a chance to save to the Cloud. Therefore deleting these files will also delete your project. It’s unlikely that this would be the case unless you’re always in the habit of working offline.

Any projects you have saved to the Cloud (i.e. Cricut’s servers) will NOT be deleted.

To check where your projects are being saved go back to the Settings menu. It will show whether you are saving to the Cloud and computer or the Cloud only.

Clearing the DS Cache:

1. Close Design Space if you have it open.

2. If you are using a Windows computer go to the File Explorer app.

If you don’t have that app pinned to your taskbar you can easily find it by holding down the Windows button on your keyboard and tapping the E key. Or right click the Windows icon and select it from the menu.

Once you have File Explorer open you need to navigate to the directory that contains the Design Space files.

On most PC’s that will be within your C:/ drive. Here is where you should find those files:

C: > Users > [your computer name] > .cricut-design-space > LocalData

3. Once you have navigated to the LocalData directory you are going to delete the files and folders within it. Use Ctrl A to select them all then press the Delete key on your keyboard. Or – right click and select Delete.

** If you get the following error message it means you forgot to exit out of all Design Space windows.  You will need to close any open Design Space windows then click Try again.

4. Now open Design Space and select View, Force Reload.

Mac users – for info on how to clear your DS cache please see the instructions here: https://help.cricut.com/hc/en-us/articles/360040718434-Design-Space-for-Desktop-Clearing-Application-Cache#mac

Tip 3: Deleting old versions of Design Space.

Cricut also recommends deleting the old versions of Design Space that are saved on your PC.  (The previous option of backdating to an older version no longer works as DS now automatically updates to the latest available version on loading so there's no reason to keep them.)

To find the old versions navigate to:

C: > Users > [your computer name] > .cricut-design-space > Update

Depending on when you started using Design Space on your PC you will have some of these files:

It’s safe to delete all of these files however you may wish to keep the very latest one.

Select all the files you wish to remove, right click then select Delete.

Hopefully, these tips will help with any problems you are experiencing.

Easy Text offsets in Inkscape V1.0

Back in June of 2020 (time flies...) I recorded a video demonstrating how easy it is to create offset shadows in Inkscape.

Below you'll find screenshots of the process.  I hope this is helpful for those of you who don't like or have trouble following videos.  You can download a printable PDF from here: http://u.pc.cd/4nG

Congratulations! You’ve created your offset!

(You can select your original text and move it out of the way if you find that easier.)

Your SVG is now ready to upload to any design program that uses SVG’s.

(Eg. Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, ScanNCut Canvas)
