Design Space Beta Preview September 2015

Cricut have been hard at work on the next release of Design Space!

I've put a video together to quickly give you a preview of what's coming.

Please remember, this is a beta preview. You won't see this in the current production version yet!

Here's the basics of what's in the update:
  • Ability to apply patterns to images
  • Ability to upload custom patterns
  • Image information icon is now displayed in the layer attributes panel
  • Vector and basic image uploads is automatically determined by the file type
  • Uploaded images now include a preview for both printable and non-printable cut styles
  • Slice now creates an additional layer to preserve the color/pattern of both overlapping images
  • Edits can be made to individual layers without needing to ungroup first
  • Grid lines are now on by default
  • Each page in a project must be printed individually when using Print then Cut
  • Shift click multi-select images on the canvas/layers panel

·

Happy crafting!  ♥

Thanks for the info. I actually found your blog when searching for "Cricut Design Space Bugs", as I've found a few bugs that are really BUGGING me! Here's a copy of part of the email I sent to support@cricut.com, though I'm not sure I'll receive a reply:

"First, if I try to type in a specific number in the X/Y boxes, I’ve noticed that the shape on the mat will often jump to a completely random location that is NOT the X/Y position that I typed in. (I’m using the enter key to “accept” the position change. I’ve also tried just clicking outside of the box to apply it.) This is a major issue. As a graphic designer by trade and user of expert-level software from Adobe (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), I’m used to being able to type in a specific position and having a lot of control over objects on the screen. With this bug, I can’t precisely position shapes on the mat.

The second major problem is dealing with layers. I was creating a file with several file tab divider pages, and adding writing layers to label each divider. I was attaching and detaching the labels as I cut and created new ones, so that I could type a new label. I have the file divider shapes aligned on the mat so that they are layered one on top the other, stacked with the tabs showing at the top like the final project will look when cut and stacked together. So, to work on each new tab, I hide all the ones I’m not editing the label for. But, I’ve figured out that if I hide the layers going from top to bottom, then click on my exposed layer, it is selecting one of the hidden layers. It seems not to do this if I hide the layers from topmost first (going DOWN the stack). The reason I can tell it is selecting the hidden layer is there is the blue resize handle appearing in a random location, and if I hit “Delete” on the keyboard, it deletes one of the hidden layers."

Has anyone else noticed these problems?? I've been a Cricut user since 2005, but getting real tired of their software never living up to the hype. There's always some issue that we have to work around. :|
