CRICUT: Design Space Chrome Plugin message

If you're accessing Design Space using the Google Chrome browser, you might be seeing a message that says "This site uses a plugin (Cricut) that will soon be unsupported."

No need to panic! Design Space isn't suddenly going to stop working.

That message is advising you that in September 2015 programs (such as the Cricut Design Space) that use a plugin called NPAPI will be unable to load.

Sounds scary... but Provocraft have plans in place that will still allow Design Space to work.

If you see that message on your screen, simply click the x at the end of that yellow message bar. ☺

Google Chrome V43 crashing

Tonight I updated Google Chrome to the latest version.

Immediately after updating Chrome started crashing. This is the error I received even after restarting Chrome and my computer.

My first thought was that I might have to go and enable NPAPI again. But it was already enabled.

It wasn't crashing on every site I visited but many of them. I narrowed the problem down to sites that used Flash.  That included Design Space and Facebook.

I went to chrome://plugins/ expecting to have to enable the NPAPI version of Shockwave Flash but it was already enabled.

The PPAPI version was disabled (to help with previous Shockwave crashes) so I enabled it.

And the problem went away! Yay!!

Hope this works for you if you're having the same problem.

CRICUT: Design Space - Sorting the Custom Materials

Have you had trouble finding a particular material when you click on Custom materials in Design Space?

Well.. did you know you can sort them?

Yes.... seriously... you can!

Here's the list when you first open it. The materials don't seem to be in any particular order... when in fact they are in Cut Pressure order. Materials that require less cut pressure are listed at the top of the list.

It's easy to change the order to alphabetical though. Just click on the Material Name heading.

Wait about 5 or so seconds while the materials are being sorted then they'll appear in alphabetical order from A - Z. Click on the Material Name heading again to sort from Z - A.

To change back to Cut Pressure order just click on that heading.

I hope this was one of those "you learn something new every day" days!

CRICUT: Fixing the Design Space plugin problem in Chrome

UPDATE: Cricut Design Space no longer uses the NPAPI plugin, so this information no longer applies.

If you haven't used Design Space for a couple of weeks and you're a Google Chrome user then when you update Chrome you'll probably be repeatedly prompted to download the Design Space plugin.

Here's what you need to do to fix that problem.
