CRICUT: Design Space iOS app update

Cricut have just released an update to the Design Space iOS app.

This update allows you to move images between mats while you're at the cut preview screen.  That means you don't have to go back to the design screen to move your images to a different cutting mat.

In this image below you can see that I have seven hearts on the canvas.

 

When I click "Send to Mat" the images are placed on two separate mats with four hearts on one mat and three on the other.

But I know that I can fit five on one mat and two on the other thereby saving some of my cardstock.

If I tap on one of the hearts on the second mat you will see 3 dots appear in the top left corner of that image.

 

When I click on those dots a menu appears with two options.

 

I tap on the Move to another Mat option and this box appears.

  

I click on Mat 1 and that heart will be moved to that mat. The heart I moved has been placed on top of one of the other hearts and has a yellow border around it.

 

I can tap on that heart and drag it into the middle of the mat.

 

Now with that image still selected I can use the rotate handle to turn it 180deg.

  

 

Adjust the position of the hearts as needed so that none of them have a yellow border. (That indicates that they are touching).

You also have the option of hiding images on the cut screen. This is useful if you want to recut just some of the images on a mat. 

Tap on the three dots then tap Hide Selected. 

 

To unhide an image tap the "Hidden" button below the mat and select the images you wish to unhide. 

 

You have the option of moving images to a new mat. It's great if you want to change the colour of some of your images at the last minute. 

Just select the Create New Mat option at this screen.

CRICUT: Design Space iOS app now in more countries

Do you live in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or the Philippines?

Then I have very exciting news for you!! The Design Space iOS app has JUST been released into our iTunes App stores!! (Feel free to share this post with your friends to let them know!)

You can now download the app in your App store and make In-App purchases in your own currency. No more having to use a US iTunes account!

BUT, before you update the app....  If you have saved any Design Space projects to your iPad (or iPhone) you will need to save them to the Cloud while you're still signed into your US iTunes account.

Click on the Menu button and select My Projects on this iPad

Click on one of your projects. When the preview opens click Save As

Give it a new name if you like then click Save to the Cloud

Once it has saved you will see this message.

Now repeat that for each project you have saved to your device.

If you use several iOS devices with the Design Space app you will need to do the above steps for each one.

Once you've done that you can go on to the next step...

Next you need to uninstall the current version of the app. Hold your finger down on the Cricut Design icon till the image starts to shake then press the X to delete it.

Make sure you have signed out of the US app store (from Settings) and signed into your local iTunes account. Then go to the App store and search Cricut.

Click the Get button and install the new app.

Once you've installed the app you'll be able to download your projects to the iPad again from the Cloud when you need them.

CRICUT: Design Space iPhone app has been released

By now you might have heard that about the just released Design Space iPhone app.

Yes, the app has now officially been launched!

If you're not in the US, Canada or UK you will have to create a US iTunes account to get the app.

You can now use the Design Space app on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices.  If you already have the iPad app installed, make sure you update it because it now has new features! What's new in the app:

• There's an in built camera option you can use to overlay your project images over a real life background. This helps visualise the finished project. 

• You can now use the Hide Contour feature to hide parts of an image

• The basic shapes tool has been added so you can quickly add a score line or squares, circles, stars etc to your canvas.

• There are also Bug fixes and performance improvements in this update.  If you have feedback for PC you can use the feedback option in the menu. 

Now, you can design and cut with the Cricut Explore pretty much anywhere!

CRICUT: iPad app news and more

I love the Design Space iPad app! I keep thinking it would be awesome if there was an iPhone app as well.

Because there’s some days when I’m out and about without my iPad (that thing gets heavy once you put a case on it) and I have some free time while I’m sitting waiting for an appointment, or having a coffee.

Once I’ve run out of lives on Bubble Witch 2 it would be fun to play with the app.

Well…….. Guess what?

There’s now a Design Space iPhone app and it’s amazing!

The app now works with

iPhone 4, 4s

5, 5S, 5C

6, 6 Plus

iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4

iPad Mini, Mini 2, Mini 3

iPad Air, Air 2

and even

the iPod Touch 5th Generation!!

Any Apple mobile device that runs iOS 7.1 and above can now use the app!

There's also an update for the iPad app for those that are using that!

The Cricut Product Experts are currently testing the new app and I am now able to share some screenshots and info with you. I don't know the exact release date yet but as soon as I have more information (and I'm allowed to share) I'll let you know!

And for all of the Android users out there who have just thrown their Samsungs at the wall.... your app is being developed too! Cricut haven't given us a release time frame yet, but they have heard your requests and work is well under way! So stay tuned! 

The Adroid app will support:

• Galaxy tablets that support Lollypop, KitKat and Jellybean (wonder if there's a Tim Tam version....) 
• Galaxy phones: S3, 4, 5 and 6
• Galaxy notes 4/5

And it's not just Samsung users that will be able to use the app. While the user experience is optimised for the Samsung Galaxy it should work with all Androids.

So back to the iPhone app...

Here’s some screen shots to give you an idea of what to expect. Keep in mind these are from the Beta iPhone app, so there could be changes before the app is released.

The iPhone app works basically the same as the iPad app. The app detects the device that's being used and reconfigures the user interface. That means that no matter what size screen you're using everything will still fit on the screen.

You'll see the Make it Now projects just as you do on the iPad app and the Web version of Design Space

 

You can set up your Explore straight from the iPhone app

 

Click the menu icon to select from the different Make it Now categories

This is how your screen will look in portrait view. On my iPhone 5 I can see four icons along the bottom.

Turn your iPhone around and your screen changes to landscape mode. 

Now I can see nine of the ten icons.

Click on the Image button and select the Categories menu. You'll see all the different categories of images here.

Or, click on the Cartridges menu and either scroll through the list or type the name of the cartridge you're looking for in the search box.

The Group, Attach, Weld, Slice and Flatten options are found in the Actions menu.

The sizing, rotation, flip and position options are found in the Edit menu.

Click the Text button and type your text.

Then click the Edit button to change your font. You have all the same text options as the Web version. You can even install the same fonts you have on your computer by using an app such as AnyFont.

But, I've saved the coolest feature till last!  

The iPhone app and the new version of the iPad app have an awesome project preview camera. Design your project 

then click on the camera icon. Point your iPhone/iPad towards the wall/cushion/canvas/mirror/anything at all and you will see exactly how your project will look! 

Imagine being able to see what your wall art will actually look like before you cut it out!

There's plenty more in store from Cricut in the coming months! 

The Cricut team are busy working on:

• An offline version of the iOS app
• The Android app
• Larger size Print then Cut
• Print then Cut for the iOS!
• Offset shadows (yes, really!!!)
• Ability to use the Imagine Colors & Patterns cartridges. Also to scale/move the Imagine patterns to fit the image you are using AND the ability to import your own patterns.
• Ability to select from different paper sizes on the Desktop version. (That function is already available on the iPad app.)

What isn't planned:

• Offline version of the Desktop (PC & Mac) app. 

What I'm still waiting for:

• The app to be available in the Australian/New Zealand iTunes stores (as well as everywhere else that needs it.)

CRICUT: Great news for iPad and Explore users

Today Paulette and I took part in a Google Hangout with Ashish Arora and some of the team from Provocraft to give us a preview of the new version of the Design Space iPad app!

Coming in mid December, you will be able to create your own designs using Cricut images on the iPad app. No longer will you be limited to the Make it Now projects! (Not that they aren't great projects of course...)

The new app has a similar opening interface to the Design Space you are used to using on your computer.

The app has been designed with ease of use in mind. And now you'll be able to design when you're inspired! 

As "Cricut Product Experts" Paulette (aka Scrapalette) and I will be given access to the new App later today. We'll start Beta testing it straight away and we'll be able to describe all its functionality to our readers!

What we know so far is that you will now be able to search for images within a particular cartridge and there are snap alignment tools! Yay!

But wait, that's not all!!

Offline functionality is coming to the Design Space app in the first half of 2015. That means that you will be able to design with or without the internet! No more internet lag!

You will be able to design on the iPad app and then cut from Design Space on your computer. Or you can design on your computer and cut from your iPad! However, to cut directly from the app, you need to have the wireless Bluetooth adapter.

If you don't have the Bluetooth adapter now is a very good time to go grab one. As the app won't be available until mid December you have time to do some bargain hunting, so watch out for those sales!

The iPad app is free and works with all iPads from the iPad2 up!

I know that many of our readers use Androids, but at this point there is no information available about when or if an Android app will be available.

There's plenty more that Provocraft have up their crafty sleeves but that's all we can share with you for now!
